Why We Chose One-Time Purchases Over Subscriptions
Academy, Prism, and the philosophy behind "buy once, own forever."
Lumavel Academy is $5.99 per course. Prism is pay-per-asset. No monthly fees. No "premium tier" that gates what you've already bought.
The Subscription Trap
Subscriptions optimize for retention, not value. The incentive is to keep you paying—not to finish. More content. More tiers. More reasons to stay. The product becomes a treadmill.
We didn't want that. We want you to buy, learn, apply, and move on. If you come back for another course, great. But we're not designing for dependency.
What One-Time Means
When you buy an Academy course, you own it. Forever. Revisit in five years. Share the link. No expiration. No "renew to access."
When you buy from Prism, the asset is yours. Download it. Use it. We don't revoke access.
The Trade-off
Subscriptions create predictable revenue. One-time is lumpy. We accept that. Sustainable doesn't mean maximizing retention at the cost of honesty. We'd rather make money from people who choose to pay again than from people who forgot to cancel.
That's the choice. Buy once. Own forever. No tricks.
