Facebook Marketplace for beginners
First listing, photos, pricing, and completing a safe local or shipped sale.
Getting started
Open Marketplace in the Facebook app or at facebook.com/marketplace. You need an account in good standing (18+). Browse nearby listings first so you see how others title items and price them.
Your first listing
- Photos: Five to ten clear shots; lead with your best angle and show any wear honestly.
- Title: Brand, model, size, and condition — e.g. "Women's Nike running shoes size 8, lightly worn."
- Description: What's included, dimensions, flaws, and pickup or shipping options.
- Price: Search similar listings; price fairly. "OBO" invites offers if you want negotiation room.
When buyers message you
Reply within a few hours when you can. Answer honestly; if many people ask the same question, add that detail to the listing.
Completing the sale
Local: Meet in a public place; agree on cash or Meta Pay before you hand over the item. Mark the listing sold when you're done.
Shipping: Pack securely, use the label flow Facebook provides, and track delivery if offered.
Safety
Watch for common scams (overpayment, off-platform links). Keep communication on Marketplace when possible.
